Malawi is one of the poorest country in the world, with a GDP procapita of less than 1200 $, a slow growth which mainly depends on international aid. The economy of the country is not well diversified and it is based mainly on agriculture, which represents 35% of the GDP production. 80% of population live in rural areas and, albeit slightly growing, the main indicators of human development are still among the lowest of the continent.
The main challenges of the country are represented by by the demographic growth, the high date of AIDS spread (around 1 million of people) and the corruption.
Since 2006 Fondazione Edu has supported 30 students in 14 Universities of 5 different cities of the country. In particular, students were enrolled in economics, agronomic and IT studies. All students have completed their academic careers.
